The Secrets of Eliminating Daily Stress: Dealing with Pace
Stress doesn’t always come from huge events in our lives. It can be caused in little amounts by small events, and build up to the point where it has the same impact as a major catastrophe. Over the next few Fridays, I’m going to examine some of the causes of daily stress and give some suggestions on what can be done to alleviate them.
Hectic Pace
One of the things you hear people constantly say today is how busy they are. One of my young co-workers recently asked me if she was working hard enough because she always got her work finished within her allotted time, and was never working at night, like all her friends.
People wear their busyness like a badge of honor these days. But what good is being so busy if you never get to enjoy anything? We are not ants getting ready for the winter.
The pace at which we drive ourselves can contribute to our stress levels greatly. We rush ourselves doing everything, even when we don’t need to. It becomes habit.
Slowing Down
The antidote for a breakneck pace is simply slowing down. If we breathe deeper, make our actions deliberate, we will start to relax. The amazing thing is that as I slow myself down, not only do I feel less stress, but I also make fewer mistakes in what I am trying to do.
If you honestly think you can’t slow down one tiny bit, then you need to consider what you are trying to get done. More on that next week.
