Saving Time: Waxing the Shower
One of my least favorite tasks is cleaning showers and tubs. The amount of effort it takes to get even a few days of soap scum off seems disproportionate to the removed material. Even with my secret tool (Gadgets We Love: Mr. Clean Erasers), I still want to minimize this time-consuming task.
My choice? I wax the shower when it is clean to prevent the buildup of soap scum and minerals and to make cleanup easier.
Why Wax?
Using a thin coat of wax on the walls will prevent, to a certain extent, the buildup of minerals and soap scum.
SAFETY NOTE
NEVER wax the floor of a bathtub or shower!
How To Wax The Shower
The first thing to do is select a liquid car wax that is compatible with the shower. Use only waxes that indicate it is OK to use on fiberglass! I have used Turtle Wax (car wax) in the past.
Next, get two rags: wipe on, wipe off. Put a little amount of liquid wax on the first rag and smooth it on a small area of the wall. When it is dry, buff off the wax with the second rag.
Repeat until the area is done.
Other Uses for Car Wax
Bonus tip: if you own felines and deal with a litterbox, giving a clean box a coat of wax before putting in the litter makes the wet litter not stick to the pan
