Non-toxic and Inexpensive Household Cleaners

Photo by spike55151The world is “going green”. I see “earth-friendly” cleaners in the grocery and department stores. While I applaud this, I also note that this cleaners are more expensive than their toxic counterparts.

I have been making and using my own cleaners for a couple of years, and I find they work just as well as the commercial brands, at a fraction of the cost.

Cleaning products can be made out of the following inexpensive ingredients: vinegar, water, soap, baking soda and borax.

As I was researching this article, I ran across two articles that really bring this home concisely: “How To Make Your Own Non-Toxic Cleaning Kit” and “Five Basics For Non-Toxic Cleaning”.

Interestingly enough, as I was writing this article, I came across a link that indicates perhaps the green cleaners now in the stores are not necessarily all that green: “Carcinogen Found Present in Seventh Generation, Method, Avalon and Whole Foods Products”. All the more reason to clean with the recipes above.
