My Top 5 Simplicity Books
After writing my life of Inner Peace books, I felt like I should do the same for simplicity. Here are my top 5, in no particular order:
Simplify Your Life
Simplify Your Life: 100 Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy the Things That Really Matter (aff) is the first book I read on the subject. While the tips in it will not work out-of-the-box for me, it really got me thinking about the concept.
Living the Simple Life
Living the Simple Life: A Guide to Scaling Down and Enjoying More is the next book I read by Elaine St. James. This book takes on consumerism and saying no as its major topics, and demonstrates various ways to do both.
Living Simply With Children
Living Simply with Children: A Voluntary Simplicity Guide for Moms, Dads, and Kids Who Want to Reclaim the Bliss of Childhood and the Joy of Parenting is a book I picked up at a conference. I will confess I haven’t read it through, but the parts of it I hve read have been uplifting and hopeful. I get very discouraged at the way my daughter gets bombarded with the “must-haves” and the “boredom” that seems to invade the lives of our young people.
The Simple Living Guide
The Simple Living Guide is a book I borrowed from the library and loved so much I bought a copy. It gives a broad base of simplicity ideas and examples.
Calvin and Hobbes
Calvin and Hobbes is still one of my favorite comic strips, and the first book in particular brings out the simplicity of childhood. There is no pretense in Calvin, who in one strip, while banging nails into the coffee table, looks up at his mother and answers her question of “What are you doing?” with “Is this a trick question?” Childhood at it’s simplest and funniest.
