Keeping Up With Stuff: The Daily Put-Away

Photo by r5d4I am not a paragon of housekeeping. My house is lived in. My husband, daughter, and yes, myself, do not always put things away or live mess free.

However, I am never embarrassed when people stop by unexpectedly, and I am always able to have my daughter’s friends over at a moment’s notice.

In fact, my in-laws gave us one hour’s notice they were stopping by (they live eight hours away and were passing by on the way to vacation). In fifteen minutes, the house was picked up and able to meet my in-law’s critical eye.

All I do to keep the house in this state is pick up every night. I’ve already shared how I use the Saturday basket to keep up with my daughter’s toys. Also, every night, I make a sweep through the house and put things away.

With this kind of daily pickup, an unannounced visit only needs a quick pickup, and a peek in the bathroom to make sure it is presentable
