How To Keep A Bathroom Clean
The bathroom is one room that has the potential to get the most grubby because of its usage. Between things that are left behind, and things that grow, the bathroom can quickly get out of hand. And when it is out of hand, it means hours of hard cleaning.
But it is possible to have a clean bathroom all the time by applying a principle known as “little and often”. (Note: Little and often comes from the book Do It Tomorrow and Other Secrets of Time Management, which advocates making incremental steps to get big projects done.) Since bathroom cleaning never stays “done”, Little and Often can make a big difference in how long you spend cleaning in the bathroom at any one time.
The trick to keeping a bathroom clean is cleaning it often, before the mess gets so big that you have to haul out the toxic cleaners and major effort.
Here are some tricks that can help you keep a bathroom clean:
Use liquid wax or shaving cream on shower doors. Both will repel soap scum buildup and save hours of scrubbing. For both, it’s a matter of rub on, buff off. Note: if you choose to use wax, make sure you can use it on indoor surfaces! The only brand I was able to find was liquid Turtle Wax. I actually prefer shaving cream because it smells better.
Shower sprays. Shower sprays can cut down on the amount of soap buildup, as well as limit mold and mildew. Be aware that the commercials for the bubble cleaner are used in an empty shower! TipNut.com has a great compilation of less toxic recipes.
Wipe the sink. If you use pre-soaped cloths to remove makeup, rinse them out when you are done and go over the sink and vanity. If not, use a dirty washcloth. Just this daily wiping will cut down on a lot of buildup.
These three techniques have saved me hours of cleaning in the bathroom. Any other suggestions?
