Decluttering Your Medicine Cabinet: What To Save or Add
A few months ago I wrote an article (Hidden Clutter: Medicine Cabinet) about decluttering our medicine cabinet. When I went through everything I was horrified to see how many expired products were in there. Since the purge, I have not stocked up unless we needed something. But I found myself thinking about what I should have in there.
Basic First Aid Supplies
We keep the bandages separate from the medicines (which are locked). Anyone with a small child knows that Band-aids are necessary for every little boo-boo. So while I didn’t purge the bandages, I realized I needed to add to what we have. This realization came to me when I saw my husband walking around with Dora band-aids on a cut.
I found two good articles on what should be in a first aid kit. The Wikipedia article was extensive; the University of Maryland’s list was a bit more approachable.
For the Medicine Cabinet
Looking over the lists, and assessing what we had in our stock, I found that while we had adequate pain reliever, we needed antacid, anti-diarrheal medication and antihistamines. These of course would be locked up.
I also realized that after some dermatological procedures last summer, I had not replenished our supplies of gauze and tape.
What’s In Your Cabinet?
The time to get supplies of this nature is when you don’t need them. I urge you to asses what you have an be prepared.
