Decluttering: 3 Ways To Handle Mementos
Most people, while decluttering, can recognize trash and throw it away. But I have yet to run into anyone who quickly recognizes souvenirs and mementos as things that can be decluttered.
Souvenirs and mementos come to represent memories to us. But if they are gone, will you truly forget the event? There are ways to save the memories while getting rid of the “stuff”.
Paper Mementos
If you have tickets, programs, photos, certificates or other paper (or relatively flat items), you can scrapbook them. Most major craft stores now sell scrapbooking kits to make this easy. Creating a scrapbook of the items will make it easy to reflect and share with others, since you can write out captions to go with the pages.
Trophies and Such
For things not easily scrapbooked, you can take pictures of the items. These pictures can be placed in albums, or added to the scrapbook pages above.
Textiles
If you have accumulated a large amount of t-shirts, you can have these made into pillows or quilts. We took some of the cute tees my daughter wore and made them into small throw pillows for her bed.
